Starting therapy can be daunting, but it can also be the start of something new.

Long before becoming a clinician I was a client. I never wanted to be a client and I never wanted to be in therapy. I resentfully picked up the phone and called a therapist for help because I had exhausted my own solutions and was stuck.

Thankfully I had an overwhelmingly positive experience and over time I saw a meaningful overlap between the profession of psychotherapy and my own personality, gifting, and desire to help others.

What’s it like?

Sessions are 50 minutes, and we talk and process our way towards your hopes.

Maybe this analogy is helpful: In massage therapy, if you have a hurting back, you go to a massage therapist. It usually feels good, it may hurt at times, the therapeutic part is getting the massage, and hopefully you walk out better.

Similarly, talk therapy might feel cathartic, meaningful, and hopeful, but it can also be painful at times. The therapeutic part is having a safe and meaningful space to talk and move towards your goals, and hopefully you walk out better.

Why does therapy work?

We need safe people to explore our problem

Safe relationships provide a secure foundation from which we can explore the world and return to for support. In a safe environment, we can reflect and process our thoughts, feelings, and sensations without fear of judgment, allowing us to gain clarity about our experiences. Without this safe space, these experiences remain unclear and unresolved within us.

We feel the need to be understood in order to move forward

When we feel truly seen and understood by someone else, we gain the confidence to pursue the path we've envisioned for ourselves. Without this sense of understanding, we may experience anxiety and uncertainty that can be paralyzing.

Reconnecting to our selves illuminates a path forward

When we slow down and take the time to notice our thoughts, feelings, emotions, and bodily sensations, we can reduce the intensity of negative emotions, savour the positive ones, and move forward with greater clarity and intention.
