Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge?

The rate is $165 per hour. We will work together in 50-minute sessions for both individual and couples therapy, with the remaining 10 minutes used for writing clinical notes and handling brief administrative tasks related to your care.

Note: For couples therapy, the initial session is 80 minutes and costs $225.

How frequent will we meet?

Most people begin with more frequent sessions (either weekly or bi-weekly) and naturally taper off as they make progress and approach their goals. Consider your availability, finances, and readiness, and together we can determine what schedule will work best for you. When I started therapy, I could only afford once a month at a reduced rate, so there's plenty of flexibility here.

Confidential

Everything you share in psychotherapy is confidential and protected under the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA). However, there are specific limits to this confidentiality, including situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, instances of vulnerable-sector abuse, abuse by another healthcare provider, legal proceedings, or in cooperation with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario’s Quality Assurance Audits. What can I expect during our first session?

During the first part of our initial session, we’ll go over some introductory questions to help me gain an understanding of your current emotional and physical state. This typically takes about 10-15 minutes. After that, we'll dive into the reason you’ve come to therapy and begin our work together.

I’m looking for a therapist for my husband, wife, son, or daughter, can you help me?

Yes. It's important to be clear about one thing: I become their therapist, not yours. Together, we will develop our own goals, which may or may not align with your priorities. You will not receive reports or progress updates.

What issues do you see the most?

The largest part of my portfolio is relationships. I work with both individuals and couples on communication, conflict, repair, as well as those who are single, separated, or divorced. In addition to relationship issues, I help with ADHD management, stress management, grief, and addressing unwanted coping behaviours.

Will you work with me?

I love working with a diverse range of people, so the answer is probably yes. If something falls outside of my expertise, I’ll help direct you to the right resources. One of the joys of this field has been connecting with individuals from various cultural backgrounds, life stages, and professions. I've worked with teenagers, retirees, new parents, empty nesters, truck drivers, small business owners, heart surgeons, first responders, and middle management. I consider myself fortunate for the diverse experiences and populations I’ve had the chance to work with.

Is this covered by OHIP or my Insurance?

Psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP but is often covered by many insurance providers. It is the client's responsibility to verify that their insurance covers my services and to file any claims accordingly. Please note that I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), not a social worker or psychologist.
