About me
Registered Psychotherapist
I love working with all kinds of people. I’m very grateful that through my upbringing, careers, and volunteer work, I have worked with people in places as far north as Aomori Japan, south as Zimbabwe, and many places in between from Trinidad to California, Afghanistan, City/Rural/and First Nations Reservations in Ontario.
In my first career, I’ve spent over 12 years primarily alongside youth and their families. Now as a psychotherapist I am grateful to have worked with couples and individuals who are truck drivers, surgeons and soon to be doctors, first-responders, those in government, small business owners, those in film (no one famous, and I couldn’t tell you who even if I had), teachers, farmers, baristas and their managers, those in-between work, and the happily retired.
Regardless of age, stage, marital status, sexual orientation, sex or gender, faith or non-faith, I hope we can work together.
Here are some of the issues I most commonly work with:
Stress, Anxiety, Depression (We all do that one)
Relationship Conflict/Communication/Repair (Couples or Individual)
Grief
ADHD
Unwanted coping/addictive behaviours
Life Transitions/Direction and purpose
Social Anxiety
Men’s issues
People who come to see me feel stuck in some way, shape, or form. That “stuckness” might take the form of worry, avoidance, ignorance, pressure, depression, procrastination, or something else. I am heavily biased towards using emotions and feelings as the window of insight into your situation. If you are familiar with modalities, I tend to operate primarily from EFT, DBT, Gottman Method, and a Family Systems perspective.
Nick Dookheran, Mdiv.
I am one of the fortunate people who has found the sweet spot of doing what I love, what I’m good at, what I can make a living from, and provide something the world needs.
I take a tremendous amount of joy and fulfillment in being able to be one’s therapist. It can be difficult to find a safe person who you can share the full depth of your experience without fear of judgement. I consider it a great privilege to be that person for so many.
